Our Story

About Us

Our firm was incorporated in 2003 and is led by its founder Kathleen Sherrill AIA, NOMA, NCARB, LEEDAP as Principal in Charge and former partner Mahendra Parekh. It was a childhood dream of Kathleen’s to become an architect and start her own practice. She found architecture to be the perfect marriage of art and science, specifically math, that allowed her to do the two things she loved simultaneously. She has since mentored, hired and trained many others aspiring architects through her office and teaching at her alma mater, Morgan University.

Upon Mahendra’s retirement in 2008 Kathleen has continued to manage the firm and expanded our services to include landscape design. It is our passion for good design as the normal and not a privilege that drives us as a firm. Because of this, we are as proud of our small community projects as we are of our large public works and government projects.

A major component of our work is historic preservation because, if you don’t know where you come from it is hard to know where you are going. We are fortunate to be in an area with so much history. Many of the projects on this site show our love of historic architecture and our endeavors to keep and protect it especially those projects in under served communities.

As an African American, woman owned firm certified with MDOT as a minority woman owned firm as well as with Baltimore City the EDWOSB program with the federal government and registered as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and All Small programs, we use this platform to be a voice for our profession and our community.

SP Arch has projects primarily in the Baltimore area on a variety of different facility types, additionally, we have projects in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia and New Jersey. SP Arch Inc is licensed to provide Architectural services in the State of Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, New Jersey, Texas and Michigan and can be licensed in all fifty states.

Along with our architectural services, we offer a wide variety of landscape architectural design services including site planning, planting plans, storm-water management and other site design related services.
